This is a difficult time for many couples. As we approach Summer, those who have organised weddings on the island in the coming months will undoubtedly be feeling a sense of uncertainty. Lots of wedding suppliers on the island are doing their absolute upmost in taking a compassionate and flexible approach while things remain uncertain in the current climate.
A few weeks ago, shortly after the lockdown measures had been put into place, I was chatting with a friend (on a socially distanced call) who had been facing this same uncertainty. Previously she had been incredibly excited about her wedding in early June. She explained that regrettably, she and her partner had made the decision to postpone and book in a new date for 2021. “Planning for a wedding that may not go ahead is pretty disheartening. I want to feel happy and excited about my wedding plans. It’s all part of it.” she’d said.

And of course, your wedding day absolutely becomes an exciting project; you have unique ideas that reflect yourself and your partner and add these into the planning because you want your wedding day to represent who you are – not only as individuals but as a couple. You want your guests to be part of this, while also having a wonderful time on the day. The excitement of planning your wedding day, your way, is all part of the adventure!
While it is important to acknowledge the inevitable feeling of disappointment that comes with postponing a wedding, try not to be too hard on yourself. You are certainly not alone. We are in the midst of a global pandemic (nobody saw this coming!). Try to find the positives in the situation. There is an opportunity for a little extra planning now. Keep looking ahead and dreaming up amazing ideas for your wedding and remember that this is only temporary! You will be able to marry the love of your life – it is just going to take a little bit longer.
Fundraising throughout 2020
On a further positive note, during these unsettled times, Botanical Vintage has recently organised a fundraising page for The National Emergencies Trust Coronavirus Appeal. Our event hire items are currently sitting in storage waiting to be beautifully styled for a fabulous island wedding! So, we decided that we would put them to good use this year while raising much needed funds for a great charity. During 2020, there will be no set hire fee for many of the items in our inventory. Instead, we are asking for a donation of what you can realistically afford right now via our gofundme page which can be found here.
Wedding stylists Proper Vintage have also very kindly offered to include a selection of fabulous props from their hire inventory to help raise funds for this charity. Please contact them directly for a booking www.propervintageiow.com
Keep an eye on our social media posts. We will be showcasing some of the amazing items available. Please get in touch for more details. (Some terms and conditions apply).
Take good care of one another. Stay positive and stay safe!
